B. What is a Nanny Camera?
Nanny cameras are hidden cameras built within common household items like fans or clocks. They are commonly used to monitor nannies or babysitters hence the name, however they have many other practical uses.
Nanny Cameras are good for monitoring:

- Elderly Caregivers
- Household workers – e.g. maids, plumbers
Today’s nanny cameras produce high resolution video that allows you to view and monitor what goes on in your home or office while you’re away. Nanny cameras offer a wide range of features: night vision, streaming video to your phone, motion activated recording, time and date stamp & more.
C. Nanny Camera Feature Checklist:
1) Shape – The first feature to take into consideration with a nanny camera is what type of device will “hide” best in your home. An iPod dock nanny cam might suit one type of family whereas an air purifier nanny cam would look out of place.
2) Range of Vision – Consider where the device will be placed and its range of vision. Is it the type of device that is placed on a table or the ceiling? Can the nanny camera capture video where you need it?
3) Storage Space – Our most popular nanny cams record directly to an SD card, just like the (postage stamp size) cards that you would put into a standard digital camera. Memory capacity ranges from 2GB -32GB size cards which is another consideration when setting up your nanny cam. Remember you can save, burn, copy then delete the video on the SD cards and use it over and over.
4) Battery Life – This is an important consideration. Video uses a fair amount of power and since some of these devices are rather small so is the battery. The longest battery life Nanny Cameras we carry will remain powered for 24 hours which means that if it has been powered on for that period of time it will need to be recharged daily. For longer term usage, we strongly recommend our devices that plug into an AC outlet.
5) Motion Activated- Motion activation helps reduce the amount of storage and will provide you with files that have activity / motion saving you from reviewing hours or possibly days of unnecessary video. However quite a few of our devices give you the choice of motion activated video, continuous record or even scheduled recording.
6) Resolution – HD resolution is only necessary if you are going to be replaying video footage on a 42”+ LCD TV. Basic resolution which is excellent for these purposes is 480 X 360. Most of our devices are 640 X480 and some even go to 720p which is a mega pixel resolution. Please note: the higher the resolution the more storage space utilized on the SD card which means less recording time per GB (gigabyte).
7) Set-up Difficulty – Most of these devices are easy to set-up. Like any new electronic device you need a few minutes to figure out the controls. The default setting on most of the devices is motion detect which is what most people need as the recording mode.
8) Night Vision – Many of these devices record in low light settings, however if no light recording is what you require we have those devices as well. The no light cameras have IR (infa-red) LEDs that are inconspicuously built into the nanny cams and offering a clear night-vision video. Remember, with any of our LOW / NO light recording nanny cams you will get full color in normal lighting conditions and as the light gets dimmer or non-existent the cameras compensate for this and the video will change to black and white in the no light conditions. The cameras adjust automatically in different lighting conditions.
9) Wireless Capabilities –Basic wireless devices allow the transmitter (the camera) and receiver to be too about 25-50 feet maximum distance from each other. If there are any walls between the transmitter and receiver or if the wireless devices are in an area with other wireless devices you may experience interference.
10) Internet / Phone Video Stream – These devices allow you to view your video footage remotely on a Computer, Tablet or Smart Phone.
